My dog is a lab/beagle mix and he has the fur/undercoat of a lab - constantly shedding and fur all over the house. I've spent good amounts through the years on grooming tools and kept putting off buying this because of the higher cost ('how good could it be compared to all the others? it's probably a hype and reviews are probably fake'...) Let me tell you, I was wrong!!
The FURminator is THE best and it's unbelievable how much fur it gets off! and it just keeps on coming off, you literally think you've got enough when you look down at the BAG of excess fur you just took off, then you do one more swipe and there's even more!!
To the people that said the brush hurt their dog or made them bleed, I say - user error! I'm very gentle with it, gently holding his skin from the top and gently gliding the comb down with NO digging in ever! DO NOT push down or dig when you're combing, again just glide the comb gently and maybe use your other hand to place at the top of where you begin - my Buddy has never been cut or hurt in any way from this tool! I am glad I read the reviews though as it made me very careful the first time, and understandably with some tools you do need to use a bit of pressure to actually get any fur off - but not with the FURminator! Buy this - you won't be sorry!

How I used this tool to safely get out cat mats

My cat had a foot-long, four-inch wide, 1.5-inch tall unibrow mat down his back. (Try not to judge. I have a chronically ill kid, two recent deaths in the family, and this kitty never gets mats).

Of course for this, I should have taken him to a groomer. But one of my cats goes to the groomer once a year and the other recognizes him as the devil, and hisses (turns out there is a reason for that) and it is terrible for everyone.

So, I followed a YouTube vet for advice and he said to use coconut oil and I did. But I would also run this took perpendicular to his fur and slide side to side. He would purr when I did this I think because it itched.

Sometimes, I would take a cuticle clipper and clip out bits, but I would place the soft end of the cuticle clipper toward his fur to make absolutely sure I did not nick him. And this would just release some of the mats, making the side-to-side Furminator motion a bit more efficient.

I did this for a week, side to side, and then sometimes, a few cuts with the cuticle clippers if I noticed any mats far enough away from his skin that I could cut them without any risk at all of hurting him. if he would lick himself, which he often did while I was doing the side-to-side action, I would run this Furminator through his licked fur to make sure his saliva was getting to the mats. Not sure why, but it was my instinct.

And I would do this for 20 minutes at a time, two or three times a day. And I would work on different parts of the mat.

And I got them out!

I accidentally ordered two of these and I am glad because I am going to keep one by my desk and another in the kitchen so that I can use them on all four of my kitties every chance I get. They all love it.

We have a short haired SE Asian village dog that sheds heavily twice a year. We've tried other similar brushes before, but the FURminator has become our go to. It pulls out loose hair and this brush actually holds onto most of the loose hair for less mess. Other similar brushes scatter it more and you have to roll the loose hair into messy clumps. In one brush session, we easily "fill" this brush up 3 or 4 times and use the back button to empty into the trash. I'm glad we tried out the FURminator!

This product works extremely well on removing the extra Fur from my dog. She is a long hair so I have to do it every couple of days. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the button you push to remove the hair from the comb does not stay down. I'm sure it's just mine and most of them work properly. With it staying in place, the way it is designed when you're not using it, that protects the teeth. So I do wish mine would work. Other than that, this is an excellent product that does not harm or cause my dog any anxiety whatsoever. I let her get used to it for about 15 minutes and since then she generally falls asleep while I'm doing it.

OMG !!! This works awesome on my Border Collie. We have a lot of burrs and stickers on our property. He gets absolutely covered. I've now used 5 different style brushes on our long haired German Shepherd pup. This is the only brush that seems to get to the thich inner mat of her coat. She is groomed on a regular basis, never happy though, she clearly does not like the feel of the various brushes...... Well that changed with this one, not only did it get into and clear the thick under fur, but our pup lay back and didn't seem at all fussed about being groomed. I think we've found our brush!!
